Abstract

Вторая половина XVIII в. – период становления в России «предпринимателя средней руки». Итоги Великой северной экспедиции открывали для государства и активных деловых людей новые экономические перспективы. Необходимо было закрепить за Россией открытые земли, определить и освоить их природно-сырьевые ресурсы, урегулировать сбор ясака. Купцов и промышленных людей потянуло в неизведанную даль. На кораблях, построенных и снаряженных на собственные деньги, они отправлялись на свой страх и риск в опасное плавание по «Восточному Тихому морю к неведомым островам и землям» ради промысла пушного зверя и «приведения под высоко монаршую руку незнаемых народов». Именно эти люди первыми открыли большую часть Алеутских островов, первыми высадились на них, составили их первые карты и описания природы и жителей.

It was necessary to secure the open lands for Russia, identify and develop their natural resources, and regulate the collection of tobacco. Merchants and industrial people were drawn into an unknown distance. On ships built and equipped with their own money, they set off at their own risk on a dangerous voyage across the «Eastern Pacific Sea to unknown islands and lands» for the sake of fur-bearing animals and «bringing unknown peoples under the high monarch's hand». It was these people who first discovered most of the Aleutian Islands, were the first to land on them, made their first maps and descriptions of nature and inhabitants.
