The article raises the question of the prevalence of the child abuse problem in Russian families. The provided statistics data indicates the presence of the problem, but on a small scale. A secondary analysis of the results of research was carried out by the Russian sociologists, which lead to the conclusion that the problem is much larger than the official statistics shows, and that the physical and psychological violence against children has become an educational means in Russian families. These findings are confirmed by the results of the research presented in this article. About a quarter of interviewees confirm being abused in their families, often physically and psychologically. However, many respondents, even those who have faced rather severe punishment from their parents, do not consider it as a manifestation of cruelty, because the culture of physical punishment of children in Russian families has already become quite stable and is used across generations.en
