Abstract

В данной статье представлено продолжение второй части нашего отзыва на рецензируемое издание «Амбивалентность власти в экономике двадцать первого века: примеры из России и других стран» (2022 г.) под редакцией Вадима Радаева и Зои Котельниковой. Высокий эвристический потенциал рассматриваемой монографии не вызывает никаких сомнений. Вместе с тем, научный функционал этой книги сам по себе исключительно амбивалентен. При разборе завершающих глав «Амбивалентности власти» авторы данной статьи сделали свой главный акцент на обсуждении многих дискуссионных моментов, представленных в изложении результатов, включая критику показателей моделирования. Наши собственные размышления относительно общих моментов, объединяющих все главы «Амбивалентности власти» как с теоретической точки зрения, так и при описании практик, привели нас к метафоре «зонтичной концепции», объединяющей все её главы. Тщательный междисциплинарный и историко-теоретический анализ широкой гаммы смыслов, содержаний и значений дефиниции амбивалентности привёл нас к выводу о том, что это понятие есть некая метафизическая конструкция типа кантовской «вещи-в-себе» («thing-in-itself»), то есть вещи как таковой, вне зависимости от нашего восприятия. В рецензируемой книге «амбивалентность власти» как кантовская «вещь-в-себе» при использовании разнообразных «опосредующих» манипуляций вдруг превращается в «вещь-для-всех» («thing-for-all»), раскрывая буквально все смыслы жизни и все её сущности. Мир, взятый «изнутри», превращается в «мир для всех» подобно тому, как спокойно спящий пролетариат превращается в рабочий «класс-для-себя» с полным осознанием своих классовых интересов и потому готовый свергать любую буржуазию. Амбивалентности власти при этом превращаются в некие «фиговые листки», готовые прикрывать любые «тёмные стороны» (англ. «dark sides») объектов исследования. Этот термин явно предпочитает Вадим Радаев, потому что ориентация на «тёмные стороны» исследуемого объекта встречается почти во всех главах рецензируемой книги. На наш взгляд, «тёмные стороны» амбивалентности – это не очень удачная научная метафора, потому что при её применении во всех 17-ти главах книги в анализе амбивалентности власти нужно будет различать разные оттенки тёмных сторон (англ. «different shades of dark sides») – от «терпимой» тёмной стороны (англ. «tolerable» dark-side) до «невыносимой» (англ. «intolerable» dark-side), как это принято в современном менеджменте и маркетинге. Надо подчеркнуть, что в этих областях проводятся отдельные, соответствующие операционализации и верификации, а в экономической социологии несколько другая научная специфика, вовсе не связанная с фокусированием на «тёмные стороны» амбивалентности. Тем не менее, как нами отмечалось в первой части рецензии, в монографии «Амбивалентность власти» имеется достаточно много ярких и сильных научных текстов, бросающих вызов существующим теориям и удовлетворяющих интересы практически всех, кого занимают вопросы современной экономики, встроенной в современное общество.

This article continues our critical review of the peer-reviewed publication Ambivalence of Power in the Economy of the Twenty-First Century: Case Studies from Russia and Beyond (2022), edited by Vadim Radaev and Zoya Kotelnikova. The high heuristic potential of the monograph under consideration is beyond doubt. At the same time, the scientific functionality of this book is in itself extremely ambivalent. Analyzing the concluding chapters of The Ambivalence of Power… the authors of this article focused on a number of debatable issues presented in the findings sections, including criticism of the modeling indicators. Our own reflections on the common points that are covered in all the chapters of The Ambivalence of Power…, both from theoretical and empirical points of view, have led us to the metaphor of an «umbrella concept» uniting all of its chapters. A thorough interdisciplinary, historical and theoretical analyses of a wide range of concepts, definitions, and meanings of ambivalence resulted in a conclusion that it is a kind of metaphysical construction of the Kantian «thing in itself» type, i.e. a thing per se, before our perception in time and space. In the book in question, the «ambivalence of power», just like Kant’s «thing in itself», when using various «mediating» manipulations, suddenly turns into a «thing for all», revealing literally all the meanings and essences of life. The world taken «from within» turns into a «world for all» just like the peacefully sleeping proletariat turns into a working «class for itself» fully aware of its class interests and therefore ready to overthrow any bourgeoisie. At the same time, the ambivalences of power turn into some kind of «fig leaves» available to cover up any «dark sides» of the objects under study. This term is clearly preferred by Vadim Radaev since orientation towards such «dark sides» of the objects under study is found in almost all the chapters of the book under review. In our opinion, the term «dark sides» of ambivalence is not a very successful scientific metaphor because if it is used in all the seventeen chapters of the book in the analysis of the ambivalence of power, different shades of these «dark sides» – from the «tolerable» to the «intolerable» ones – should have been distinguished, as is customary in modern management and marketing. It must be emphasized that in these areas separate, appropriate operationalizations and verifications are carried out; and there is a somewhat different scientific specificity in economic sociology, not at all related to focusing on the «dark sides» of ambivalence. Nevertheless, as we noted in the first part of the review, the monograph The Ambivalence of Power… contains a lot of brilliant scientific texts which challenge the existing theories and satisfy the interests of almost anyone interested in the issues of modern economy embedded in modern society.
