La pensee semiotique de Greimas et son evolution entre " Semantique structurale" (1970) et "Semiotique des passions" (1991)

Abstract

By the time of triumphant structuralism, in 1970-1980, Greimas had achieved an overwhelming reputation thanks to the publication of his “Structural Semantics”. However, this success quickly disappeared due to several factors. The first factor was his constant search for the “universals of thought” by which he closed the semiotic system onto itself. The second factor was his perception of the existence of different languages as a simple epiphenomenon. Finally, his actantial diagram, with a privileged place to the sender-judicator, came to be treated as a single tool introducing a transcendence which itself became asymptotic of the Absolute. As a result, Greimas made some mistakes, even a huge misinterpretation, in his analysis of the short story by Maupassant “The Two Friends”. While acknowledging what semiotics owes to Greimas, in this article, we will try to show some of the ways that prevented Greimassian semiotics from becoming a confidential discipline.

Au moment du structuralisme triomphant, dans les années 1970-1980, Greimas avait atteint une certaine notoriété grâce à la publication de Sémantique structurale. Mais ce succès s’éclipsa très vite d’abord parce qu’en recherchant sans cesse les « universaux de pensée » il referma le système sémiotique sur lui-même, ensuite parce qu’il considéra l’existence de différentes langues à la surface de la planète comme un simple épiphénomène, enfin parce que son schéma actantiel, dans lequel il accordait une place privilégiée au destinateurjudicateur, devint l’outil permettant d’introduire une transcendance qui devint elle-même asymptotique de l’Absolu. Résultat : Greimas fit des erreurs, voire un énorme contresens, dans son interprétation de la nouvelle de Maupassant « Les deux amis ». Tout en reconnaissant ce que la sémiotique doit à Greimas, nous tenterons de montrer certaines des fausses pistes qui firent qu’aujourd’hui la sémiotique Greimassienne est devenue une discipline confidentielle.

Греймасу, в данной статье мы попытаемся показать некоторые из ошибочных методик анализа, которые помешали греймасовской семиотике стать надежным методом.
