This article presents the results of archeozoological research of collections of the ancient Chebachya Pristan 2 settlement (Khanty-Mansi district of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra) from excavations of 2014-15. The monument is dated to the 10-12th centuries. Excavations of the ancient Chebachya Pristan 2 settlement allowed us to receive very representative collection of artifacts and osteological materials. This category of sources is the most significant for reconstruction of a natural environment of the ancient population and its life support system. Within archaeozoological research 456 copies of bone residues have been defined, 90% of their total number are bones of mammals. Bones of 11 species of modern domestic and wild mammals are defined. The population of the ancient settlement used animals - horses and dogs, and was engaged in trade of wild species of mammals. Among them bone residues of the reindeer predominate, but there are also bones of brown bears, elks and single bones of a fox, otter, polar fox, beaver, hare white hare, squirrel. Besides, inhabitants were engaged in fishery. The most part of bones of animals was found as the kitchen remains. Bones of the head of a reindeer, horse, dog, and brown bear were probably used for ritual purposes. The location of skulls within constructions, according to archaeological and ethnographic data, had a certain sacral meaning.en
